Christian speaker Jeff Dugan presents

Art to Heart Talks

In each Art to Heart talk, award-winning Christian speaker Jeff Dugan presents an inspirational message that shows how great art can communicate Biblical truths in ways that are impossible using words alone.  The talks develop their themes in more depth and with a greater emotional impact than the example we've included on this web site, but take a similar approach in using art to discover spiritual insights.  If you have little knowledge of art, you will probably be surprised how powerfully God can use it to speak directly to your heart.  If you are already an art lover, you may be surprised how much more powerful art can be if you seek the voice of God in it, rather than the genius of man.

inspiring speech on Christian truths in artA Love Song

This talk features the 19th century French peasant paintings of Jean-Francois Millet and Jules Breton.  These paintings and others speak to the hearts of the audience about the innate value of even the humblest and most despised among us, not because of our own merit, but because of God's love for us.  This theme is further developed to show how God has left an intimate message of love for us in one of the paintings.

The presentation lasts 20 minutes, and is a perfect complement to events featuring subjects such as

As the title suggests, this presentation is about prayer.  It features 13 different beautiful works of art, including one sculpture.  The paintings run the gamut from the 1600s to the 1990s.  Featured artists include Rembrandt, Matisse, Manet, Monet, and Van Gogh.  Each painting portrays an element important to prayer, such as reverence, petition for providence, petition for forgiveness, etc.  The talk ends with a powerful look at how the non-verbal messages in art can help the audience to experience prayer in new, invigorating way.

How to Pray lasts 60 minutes, and is especially appropriate in conjunction with a focus on prayer or The Lord's Prayer.

(on the topic of Christian stewardship)

The newest Art to Heart talk is an exploration of the meaning of beauty.  It features some of the most beautiful art ever created, and leads to a discussion of the beauty of Christ's sacrifice (ultimately, nothing could be more beautiful), concluding by observing the beauty of our own imitation of His life and especially His sacrifice.

Duration is 30 minutes.  The particular focus of this message can be tailored to any emphasis on the imitation of Christ, such as
